The website was long overdue for a refresh. Not only is the design outdated, but the content also needs updating.

It has been a while since I switched from self-employment to a permanent position.

Until mid-2022, I offered my professional services to companies as ByTek – Stefan Bayer. Since then, the websites are no longer representative. An update is due.

I have archived a static copy of my previous profile as a freelance IT consultant, project manager, test manager, etc. here: ByTek – Stefan Bayer – Informatik – Management – Technologie.

The new website should have a more lively and personal feel. Less company, more person.

Due to time constraints and convenience, I’m sticking with WordPress. Finding the right theme and typography has already become a challenge.

A new ‘business card’ is needed and the blog needs to be designed in an appealing way. Then there are the standard things (contact, legal notice, etc.).

Edit: For now, I’ve decided to go with the free ‘Lovecraft’ theme. At first glance, it seems to be just right, but it’s gradually turning out to be rather rigid and simplistic.

Excellent! Two notes that were important to me and the early stages of the ‘About me’ page (currently called ‘Who I am’) are starting to give the website shape:

What could possibly go wrong? – Stefan Bayer
sbayer.de
Von Schlüsseln und Zertifikaten – Stefan Bayer
sbayer.de
Wer ich bin – Stefan Bayer
sbayer.de

Addendum: I slipped Lovecraft a new header image. The interface simply didn’t allow for the aspect ratio I wanted. But I was able to replace the default image at wp-content/themes/lovecraft/assets/images/header.jpg.
