officemcp: Any mailbox and any cloud for AI assistants
AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT can read, summarise and reply to emails. Until now, though, almost only with two providers: Google and Microsoft. If your mailbox is hosted by IONOS, Strato, GMX, WEB.DE, Posteo or on your own server, you were left out. The same applies to cloud storage: Google Drive and OneDrive can be connected, NextCloud and other WebDAV storage cannot.
officemcp closes this gap. I designed and developed the service, and it is now online as a beta.
How it works
officemcp is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard through which AI assistants access external tools. It connects:
- Email: any mailbox with IMAP and SMTP. The assistant can read, search, reply, forward, sort and create drafts, including the Sent folder and correct threading.
- Cloud storage: NextCloud and any WebDAV storage, such as many NAS systems. Files can be searched, read, stored and moved, and with NextCloud also shared via a share link.
The real value lies in the combination: an attachment goes straight from the email into the right cloud folder, a file from the cloud is attached straight to a reply. Both with a single sentence in the chat.
All assistants with sufficient MCP support are supported, including Claude, ChatGPT, Mistral, Grok and Cursor.
Control and data protection
- Folder-level access: for each mailbox and storage you decide which folders the AI can see. Everything else is invisible to it.
- Graded permissions: full access, read only or drafts only. In draft mode the AI cannot send anything by itself.
- No data retention: emails and files stay with the respective provider and are only passed through when needed.
- Operation: hosted in Germany, credentials encrypted with AES-256, two-factor login, live monitor for all AI access. For companies, running it on their own infrastructure is also possible.
In practice
officemcp has already proven itself in my own use: summarising and answering correspondence with my tax adviser, filing work results from the chat directly in NextCloud, and tidying up a mailbox that had grown over years in a short time.
Availability
The beta is free and has no time limit, with up to three mailboxes and one cloud storage. Setup takes a few minutes. Paid plans with higher quotas will follow after the beta.
